Connecting people who coach or mentor startups.

Getting inspired how other people approach the coaching situation and reflecting on your own approach.

At the second meetup, we will have three talks or interactive exercises.

If you have an idea for a 15-20 minutes talk or 20-25 minutes exercise, let me know and we can add this to the agenda.

– An exercise should either practically show a “tool” that could be used in a coaching session with a startup, or help gaining insights how other participants approach coaching situations. A “tool” could be for example a question technique for guiding the discussion, a visual tool like Business Model Canvas, or Excel template for interactive creation of a financial plan etc.

– A talk should be about YOUR first-hand experience with a specific situation where you coached or mentored a startup, a specific “tool” / approach you use, or a specific situation you coach for, e.g. startup-corporate collaboration or fundraising. Please no theoretical lecture and no advertising your services but a specific case from your own experience you could share.

What’s the idea behind the Vienna Startup Coaching Meetup series?

As coaches and mentors, we all have our special area of expertise, maybe fundraising, maybe business development, maybe forming the team, maybe setting up legal documents.

However, what all coaches and mentors have in common is the general situation:

There is a startup, they are aware of some of their problems, but not all of them. As a coach or mentor you have only limited time with them. The founders might be a little overwhelmed with all the new info they get and all the decisions they have to make. They also might be very confident they are on the right track and can pull this off. This confidence could make them a bit “stubborn” in some aspects, and is also is a key ingredient for innovators.

So how to approach the coaching / mentoring? Address only topics the startup brings up or also potential blind spots? Any tools to use, e.g. visualization with Business Model Canvas, or a special way of asking questions? How to steer the conversation? Or just go with the flow?

The monthly Meetup is a place to share your personal approach and learn more about how other coaches and mentors approach this kind of situation. This approach could be “just do it” or involve a lot of preparation. It is inspiring to hear more about those different approaches and personal experience with them.
