Event Details

Connecting people who coach or mentor startups.

Getting inspired how other people approach the coaching situation and reflecting on your own approach.

At the first meetup, we will watch a recorded startup pitch, so we all have a shared view of a specific startup.

Then we will discuss, how you, as a coach or mentor, would approach this for a one hour coaching session with this startup, for example:

– Plan your time with this startup
– Topics to cover and how to spilt time between these
– “Tools” to be used for the coaching session, e.g. business model canvas
– How to handle “blind spots”, important topics the startup didn’t bring up
– Whatever else you would do, or do instead of the points above

This is NOT intended as talk on “how to do it right”, but about sharing and learning how different people approach this kind of situation.

Depending on how many people show up, we will work on this in smaller groups on flip charts, presenting them back to everyone else, or work on it together in a large group.

What’s the idea behind the Vienna Startup Coaching Meetup series?

We all have our special area of expertise, maybe fundraising, maybe business development, maybe forming the team, maybe setting up legal documents.

However, what all coaches and mentors have in common is the general situation:

There is a startup, they are aware of some of their problems, but not all of them. As a coach or mentor you have only limited time with them. The founders might be a little overwhelmed with all the new info they get and all the decisions they have to make. They also might be very confident they are on the right track and can pull this off. This could make them a bit “stubborn” in some aspects, and is also is a key ingredient for innovators.

So how to approach the coaching / mentoring? Address only topics they bring up or also potential blind spots? Any tools to use, e.g. visualization with Business Model Canvas, or a special way of asking questions? How to steer the conversation? Or just go with the flow?

The monthly Meetup is a place to share your personal approach and learn more about how other coaches and mentors approach this kind of situation. This approach could be “just do it” or involve a lot of preparation. It is inspiring to hear more about those different approaches and personal experience with them.
