With the explosion of corporate net-zero pledges from the likes of Nestle, Vodafone, Rolls Royce and 893 others, and the readiness shown by consumer demand for low carbon products, 2020 has fired the starting gun for entrepreneurs to create scalable startups which can drastically reduce carbon emissions while leveraging commercial opportunities.
Startups are only part of the innovation picture—but they are quick-moving, inventive, can easily cross international and disciplinary boundaries, while priming behaviour and regulatory change. We must have more of them, and soon.
