GoSiliconValley 2017/18 – Kommen Sie ins Valley der Technologie – bridging Austria and the IT center of the world

Auch dieses Jahr bietet die AUSSENWIRTSCHAFT AUSTRIA bis zu elf ausgewählten österreichischen Unternehmen die Chance, ein ein- bis dreimonatiges Geschäftsanbahnungsprogramm ab 1.4.2017 bei einem Business Inkubator/Accelerator im Silicon Valley zu absolvieren und an die Erfolge vergangener Programme anzuknüpfen.
Im Zuge der Internationalisierungsoffensive go-international, einer Initiative des Bundesministeriums für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Wirtschaft und der Wirtschaftskammer Österreich, wird österreichischen KMUs der Einstieg in den US-Markt (IT-Branche) und der Zugang zu Risikokapital ermöglicht.
Nach einer mehrstufigen Auswahl durch eine US-Jury und anderen bestehend aus Finanz- und Industrieexperten kann das Unternehmen ein bis drei Monate lang das umfangreiche Serviceangebot des Partner-Business-Inkubator/Accelerators in Kalifornien in Anspruch nehmen.

What it is about
“GoSiliconValley” is an international initiative by the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (http://www.wko.at/). It offers selected Austrian startups an opportunity to access the epicenter of IT innovation in the Silicon Valley and its abundant sources of partnerships and risk capital.

Duration and partner accelerator
Every year, up to 12 companies are selected by an Austrian and US jury to spend up to three months in the Silicon Valley at one of our partner business incubators and accelerators, Plug and Play Tech Center (http://www.plugandplaytechcenter.com/), Founders Space (http://www.foundersspace.com/) and GSVlabs (http://gsvlabs.com/) to learn the ropes and get connected with the local business community.

Getting connected
The Austrian participants profit immensely from the honest and constructive feedback they receive from VC partners, mentors and corporate development managers of top-tier tech companies, who know the ins and outs of the market. Contacts that would require months or years from Austria happen in weeks in Silicon Valley. Extremely closed companies like Apple or Google become approachable, once you receive personal recommendations, which are plentiful.
The goals and outcome
Representatives of the Austrian Trade Commission in Los Angeles, which started the initiative in 2009, and San Francisco administer the initiative. They are in close contact with the selected Austrian companies during their stay in Silicon Valley and conduct entry and exit interviews to define and monitor goals. Now in its seventh year, the
initiative has already graduated over 100 companies. Even though every participating company has different goals and achievements, about 5% of companies were acquired, received funding and numerous strategic partnerships were formed. A fifth of all graduated companies established a subsidiary in the US as a result of their participationin the program.

First Prize: Best Trade Promotion Organization
In 2012, the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber won First Price as the world’s best Trade Promotion Organization, when it submitted the “GoSiliconValley” initiative as a best practices example of innovative programs.Many other countries have started to copy our initiative.

PROGRAMMABLAUF

1. Ausfüllen der ONLINE BEWERBUNG bis 23.01.2017 (in Englisch)

2. Nach einer Vorauswahl durch die Jury werden die ausgewählten Startups zum Pitching-Workshop und Informationsveranstaltung am 17.02.2017 eingeladen

3. Vom 20. und 21.02. haben die ausgewählten Startups die Möglichkeit in einer 10-minütigen Präsentation (Pitching und Q&A) die Jury von ihrer Geschäftsidee zu überzeugen.

4. Einige Tage nach den Präsentationen wird die Jury die Liste jener Unternehmen bekannt geben, die sich für ein 1 bis 3 Monatsentsendung qualifiziert haben. Dabei wird auch fixiert, in welchen der vier Quartale (beginnend mit 01.04.2017) jede einzelne Firma fällt.

5. Im März 2017 findet für die ausgewählten Firmen der Pre-Departure Workshop und anschließendes Alumni-Treffen statt.
