Healthcare is broken, it needs some loving. So let’s hack it.

At the first Health Hackathon in Vienna, let us use what we have: modern technology, a mix of artificial intelligence, design, big data, game development, user experience and modern medicine.

What is a Hackathon?

A Hackathon is an event which takes place over a few days, where you and a bunch of others focus on doing something about a problem or an idea and not just talking about it!

Mix designers, programmers, docs, specialists, experts, generalists, artists… and get the thing off the ground!

Do I need to be a programmer to participate in the Hackathon?

The answer is no. It is often more important to be visionary, than to be able to implement everything by oneself.

So why Healthcare?

Simple – we all get sick, and we do not like it. But imagine the suckiness of cancer, diabetes, life with chronic pain etc! Can tech help there? Of course it can.

So what about the theme? AI and Games?

Because it makes all kinds of sense! Some of the biggest issues in healthcare are the motivational factors and the fact that it’s hard to know what to do next.

By using AI, maybe we can find what could be the next step, instead of just listing all the potential ones?

And by using elements from games maybe we can guide a person and motivate him or her to actually do the right thing, and not just knowing about it?

Like we said, makes all kinds of sense!

“But mmm… I can’t tell a Bayesian network from my nearest neighbour, and my shaders have rims!”

No worries! Neither can I, and so do mine! Many who get involved this weekend are patients, health care professionals and developers, designers, experts or not!

The theme is a theme – we bring experts in these fields together to help during the weekend. You’ll benefit no matter what 🙂
