At this month’s Stammtisch, we discuss one of the most present issues. Under the topic “New Work”, a societal discourse is currently taking place about how workplaces of the future could look.

The understanding of work is undergoing fundamental change under the influence of digitization and post-growth movements: the classic career has had its day, and the question of meaning is coming to the fore. The boundaries between life and work are blurring in everyday life in a productive way. In the future, work will be the sum of all occupations at different stages of life.

The rational performance society of the industrial age, with overtime, competition and attendance times, has proven to be unsustainable. With the Corona crisis as an accelerator, new-work models are now rapidly gaining acceptance. The crisis-driven digitalization push is promoting new work structures characterized by work-life blending, collaboration and remote work. Corporate cultures are becoming more agile and adaptive, while employees see themselves more strongly as problem solvers for future social tasks.
