The AustrianStartups NFT Collection
(Entrepreneurship is about being brave enough to constantly reinvent yourself, test new things and be open to new technologies. With our 100th Stammtisch coming up, we thought it might be about time to test some fresh ideas to empower the Austrian startup community and bundle our forces to form an environment where entrepreneurial minds can thrive.
Don’t panic, the Stammtisch in its current format will continue to exist. While it can be interesting to engage in discussions over Zoom, COVID times have also shown us just how vital real-life events are for building connections. The AustrianStartups Stammtisch, is and will continue to be the flagship event at the heart of the AustrianStartups community.
Nonetheless, during the past years, other, radically new ways to interact with communities have entered the mainstream. Staying true to the entrepreneurial spirit, we thus aim to be at the forefront of technological progress and jump into the cold water by adding an additional, digital layer to the startup community.
Thus, we proudly present to you the first AustrianStartups NFT collection! Yes, you got it right – we are jumping into the crypto rabbit hole. We have contemplated for a long time whether this is the right thing to do, as we do see both, the potential but also the downsides of the crypotuniverse, web3 and all the things that come with it. In the end, our curiosity and entrepreneurial spirit prevailed – you’ll never know, if you don’t give it a try. Therefore, we want to invite you on a shared learning journey – we see it as an experiment, a way to collectively enhance our understanding of the possibilities of the crypto sphere. While the topic of crypto is omnipresent in the tech bubble it can still be frightening to make your first steps. With the AustrianStartups NFT collection, we want to offer you a safe space and a playground to get started with crypto without any financial downside.
So, how does it work? We have created an initial set of 3 NFTs (more to come), which you can collect through making contributions to the startup community. For example, by attending a Stammtisch event or submitting a question to the Future Weekly podcast. And once you have collected four different NFT’s you will get access to some special goodies, something uniquely available to you as a highly active community member… Will you explore the rabbit hole with us?

What are NFTs?
NFT stands for ‘non-fungible token’. They are digital assets that are unique and live on the blockchain. Typically they represent ownership over a digital good such as a drawing or music. For a more detailed explanation, we can recommend this article.
How can I get started? Do I need a crypto wallet?
Yes, you will need a crypto wallet. However, if you don’t have one yet, don’t panic – we have prepared a detailed guide for you on how to set up a (free) wallet. You can find it just below this FAQ section.
Are there any costs involved?
No, for you as a community member collecting, holding and transferring NFT’s will be completely free of charge.
When will the NFT’s become available?
The initial 3 NFTs will be officially launched on the AustrianStartups 100th Stammtisch on the 23rd of June. You can register for a ticket here. More will follow soon.
How can I collect NFT’s?
Currently, there are three different possibilities to collect a NFT – but there will be more in the future:

As a listener of the Future Weekly podcast you have the possibility to submit a question to Markus and Daniel. What is in for me? What benefits will people have that own NFT’s?
We have a special addition of AustrianStartups Merch in the planning that will be made accessible to everyone who collected at least four NFTs. Additionally, we are currently in the midst of arranging some further awards for the top NFT collectors.
Why did AustrianStartups decide to get involved with cryptocurrencies?
While some people see cryptocurrencies as the future, as a path to shaping a more decentralized, more efficient and fairer society and economy, others have denounced crypto as a huge scam and pyramid-scheme-like speculation game. We see both arguments and this is also part of the reason why we want to explore this space more, learn and make a contribution in figuring out how to leverage the upsides of crypto while reducing potential adverse effects. We are not experts, neither are we completely bullish when it comes to cryptocurrencies but we see it as a part of our identity as entrepreneurs to experiment with new technologies and we invite you to join us on this mission.

How To Set Up a Metamask Wallet and Claim Your NFT
If you don’t already have a crypto wallet that you want to use, we recommend Metamask. It is free and available for multiple browsers, as well as iOS and Android.
In the following we will guide you, step by step, through setting up a metamask wallet and claiming your AustrianStartups NFT.
Setting up a Metamask Wallet
1. Go to metamask.io and click on download. Install the respective browser extension or app.
2. When prompted, choose ‘Set Up New Wallet’ and follow the instructions. After creating your password you will be shown your ‘Secret Backup Phrase’. You need to write it down and put it in a safe place – this is the only way you will be able to recover your funds should something happen to your computer.
3. Once you do have the extension installed you should be able to find the Metamask cat icon in the usual place where you find extensions. You can click on it to view your wallet.

Claiming Your AustrianStartups NFT
There are multiple actions for which you can earn a NFT. They are listed in the FAQ section right above. Once you have completed one of these actions, you will receive an email from AustrianStartups with a link that allows you to claim your NFT.
1. Click on the link provided in the email.
2. When prompted, click ‘Connect Wallet’. You will then have the option to choose a wallet.
3. Click ‘Connect’.
4. The NFT will show up in your metamask wallet.
